Prostate Enlargement Procedures

Minimally invasive surgeries

UroLift®

The UroLift® system is a minimally invasive procedure to treat an enlarged prostate. It is a proven option for patients looking for an alternative to medications or major surgery.

It does not require heating, cutting or destruction of prostate tissue and is a safe and effective treatment option for BPH.

The UroLift® system has also been shown to not cause new and lasting sexual dysfunction.

The procedure involves placing small implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way and increase the opening of the urethra.

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy uses steam to ablate and remove excess prostate tissue that is pressing on the urethra.

Over time, the body’s natural healing response absorbs the treated tissue, shrinking the prostate. With the extra tissue removed, the urethra opens, reducing BPH symptoms.

Most patients begin to experience symptom relief in as soon as two weeks, and maximum benefit may occur within three months. Patient responses can and do vary.

GreenLight Laser prostate surgery

GreenLight Laser Prostate Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat an enlarged prostate (BPH). The surgery uses a high-powered laser to remove excess prostate tissue that is blocking the urethra and causing urinary symptoms.

During the procedure, the laser is directed through the urethra to vaporize the obstructing tissue. This helps to relieve symptoms like frequent urination, weak stream, and difficulty emptying the bladder.

GreenLight Laser surgery is a safe and effective alternative to traditional prostate surgery, with a faster recovery time, less bleeding, and minimal risk of complications. Most patients experience symptom relief soon after the procedure, with benefits continuing to improve over time.

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP)

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) is a minimally invasive procedure that uses pulses of laser beams to remove excess tissue from the inside of the prostate, relieving blockage and improving urine flow.

This opens up the urethra, helping to reduce symptoms such as frequent urination, weak stream, and difficulty fully emptying the bladder.

HoLEP is a highly effective treatment with less bleeding and a quicker recovery compared to traditional surgery. Most patients experience significant symptom relief, with long-lasting benefits.

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)

TURP is a highly effective procedure for treating an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is commonly recommended when other treatments, such as medication, are no longer providing sufficient relief.

A TURP involves removing excess prostate tissue that is blocking the urethra, allowing for improved urine flow and relief from symptoms like frequent urination, difficulty starting or stopping urination, and weak stream. The procedure is performed through the urethra, meaning no external incisions are needed.

TURP is a proven, safe option with a long track record of success in treating BPH. Most patients experience significant symptom relief after recovery. The procedure is performed under anaesthesia and typically requires only a short hospital stay.
