Bladder Surgery

Transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT)

TURBT is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat bladder cancer. It is typically performed when tumours are found in the bladder lining.

During the procedure, a small scope is inserted through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder) to access the bladder. The tumour is then removed using a specialised tool that cuts then cauterises the tissue.

TURBT is often the first step in treating bladder cancer, helping to determine the extent of the disease and providing relief from symptoms such as blood in the urine. It is a highly effective procedure with a relatively short recovery time, and it can be followed by additional treatments like chemotherapy or immunotherapy if needed.

Cystectomy

Cystectomy is a surgical procedure involving the partial or complete removal of the bladder, typically performed to treat bladder cancer or other severe bladder conditions.

In a partial cystectomy, only the diseased portion of the bladder is removed. In contrast, a radical cystectomy involves the removal of the entire bladder. When the bladder is fully removed, we will create a new pathway for urine to exit the body.

Cystectomy is a highly effective treatment for muscle invasive or certain high risk bladder cancers, aimed at enhancing the patient's quality of life and overall life expectancy. The recovery period varies depending on the type of surgery and the individual’s overall health.

Kidney Surgery

Nephrectomy

Nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney, typically performed to treat kidney cancer or other serious kidney conditions. In a radical nephrectomy, the entire kidney is removed, along with surrounding tissue or lymph nodes if necessary, to ensure the cancer has not spread.

Nephrectomy is an effective treatment for kidney disease or cancer, and many patients can live a healthy life with one remaining kidney. Recovery time depends on the type of surgery and the patient’s overall health.

Partial Nephrectomy

Partial Nephrectomy is the removal of only the affected part of the kidney, preserving the healthy tissue. This procedure is often used for smaller tumours or conditions that only affect part of the kidney. The goal is to treat the disease while maintaining kidney function.

Prostate Surgery

Robotic Prostatectomy

Robotic Prostatectomy is a minimally invasive surgery used to remove the prostate gland, typically performed to treat prostate cancer. The procedure is done using a robotic surgical system, which allows for greater precision, smaller incisions, and a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

During the procedure, the surgeon controls the robotic arms, which perform the surgery through small incisions. The robotic system provides high-definition 3D vision and enhanced dexterity, making it easier to remove the prostate while minimising damage to surrounding tissue and nerves.

Robotic prostatectomy offers many benefits, including less blood loss, reduced risk of complications, shorter hospital stays, and a faster recovery time. Most patients experience a quick return to normal activities, with improved outcomes in terms of recovery and post-surgical function.

Testicular Cancer Surgery

Orchidectomy

Orchidectomy is the surgical removal of one or both testicles, commonly performed to treat testicular cancer or as part of prostate cancer treatment. The procedure is done through small incisions, either in the scrotum or lower abdomen.

It is an effective treatment for certain cancers and conditions, with a relatively quick recovery time, usually within a few weeks.
